Job Description

Construction Manager - Conventional Generation

Join the Overland Contracting (a Black & Veatch company) construction team and build with pride. As a 100% employee-owned company, every role matters — you own your work, your impact, and your future. We lead with care, and safety is non-negotiable and embedded into every role, site and decision, ensuring our teams return home safe, every day. From field engineering to project management to quality and startup, you'll work with cutting-edge technology, learn from seasoned experts, and grow through real-world, hands-on experience. With a strong backlog across power, water, grid, and industrial markets, you'll have the stability to grow and the opportunity to shape what comes next.

Job Summary: Join our construction team as a field-based leader supporting simple cycle and combined cycle power projects. In this role, you will help coordinate day-to-day construction activities, partner closely with the Site Manager, and help drive safe, high-quality work that stays aligned with project schedule, budget, and client expectations. This position is a field assignment and requires travel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate on-site subcontractor activities to support safe, efficient execution of simple cycle and combined cycle construction work in alignment with the CPM schedule and subcontract requirements.
  • Coordinate site access, daily work planning, and field logistics to help teams work safely and productively.
  • Support implementation of the Project Construction Execution Plan while providing leadership, coaching, and direction to superintendents and field teams.
  • Monitor construction productivity, schedule performance, and field progress; take action to help the project meet budget, schedule, safety, and quality goals.
  • Partner with subcontractors and project leadership to develop and execute schedule recovery plans when needed.
  • Coordinate construction completion walkdowns, startup package handoff, punch list closeout, and turnover activities with startup and project teams.
  • Assist the Site Manager with client coordination, field issue resolution, and construction reporting.
  • Lead regular subcontractor coordination meetings and communicate schedule, installation status, RFIs, extra work requests, backcharges, and payment progress information to the appropriate project stakeholders.
  • Promote a strong safety and quality culture on site, working with safety and quality leaders to resolve field concerns and uphold project standards.
  • Apply broad construction knowledge across disciplines and support Site Manager coverage as needed, including coordination with field engineers, home office engineering, materials management, and manufacturer service technicians.
  • Identify opportunities to improve field execution, strengthen processes, and add value for the project team and client.
  • Champion continuous improvement and support teams through process or project execution changes.
  • Encourage field staff and subcontractor partners to contribute ideas that improve safety, quality, productivity, and overall project performance.
  • Supervise and mentor superintendents while helping build a collaborative, accountable field leadership team.
  • Follow applicable safety and quality standards while modeling the expectations of the project and organization.

Preferred Qualifications: Ideal candidates bring field construction leadership experience on simple cycle, combined cycle, or other power generation projects. Preferred experience includes EPC project execution, constructability planning, subcontractor coordination, project controls, schedule and budget management, risk management, safety and quality leadership, and construction project management systems. Strong candidates are effective communicators and problem solvers who can lead teams, manage competing priorities, support change, and build productive relationships with clients, subcontractors, and project stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in construction, engineering, or related field preferred, or relevant field experience. 10+ years construction supervisory experience required.

All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
